About

Imagine a house.
Alone.
In the middle of nowhere.
Everything around it is white.
There is only snow around it.
Only women live in it.
Completely alone.
Nine of them.
They have a garden where nothing grows.
They have a well with no water in it.

Imagine.

A story about nine decadent women with aristocratic manners and habits living in an unidentified space and time in the future. Inhabiting an atmosphere of endless anticipation with occasional moments of euphoria and even greater disappointment. They share a single characteristic — they all speak backwards: from the full stop, a question mark, or an exclamation mark towards the capital letter.

"Solitaires is a project in which I want to transfer the acquired choreographic knowledge and experience to the field of spoken theater. As always in my work, the concept from which I start is very simple: to make a dramatic performance that respects the conventions of dramatic theater, but in which all sentences are written and spoken from the back to the front. Thus deformed and deprived of their original meaning, the words become a challenge to the actors, who are required to utter them with the purpose, motivation and meaning that the original form contained. This seemingly banal concept gives me a lot of scope for research, and this was just one study of the main goals of the Solitaires. Unlike my previous projects, where the research was focused on the body and its performance capabilities, in this project I wanted to explore language, its performance and communication potential," said choreographer and director Matija Ferlin.

Group performance (6 performers), duration 70 min
