SAD SAM PPP begins with the dead body of Pier Paolo Pasolini as a point from which biography, history, political thought are reorganised.
The final forty-eight hours of Pasolini’s life form the temporal and spatial score of the performance. Moving backwards from Idroscalo through Rome, Paris and Stockholm, the work traces a path from the body found at the scene of his death towards a body that is still thinking, speaking, working, travelling, encountering others and imagining its own future.
Through a choreography of withdrawal, the performance moves against historical time, gradually stripping away the posthumously produced images of Pasolini: cultural icon, political symbol, victim, police case, photographic document, dead body.
Pasolini appears as a dispersed subject, produced through the people who encountered, loved, interviewed, served, waited for, found and identified him. The performance constructs a parallactic portrait in which his identity emerges through the irreducible differences between these perspectives.
At the centre of the work is also the question of reconstruction as a form of repeated violence: the endless return to Pasolini’s death through investigations, testimonies, photographs, films and theories. SAD SAM PPP begins with this over-interpreted body and moves backwards, away from the site of death and towards a time in which action, speech and future are still possible.
