Mila Panić: Just Between Us (stand-up performance)

When we laugh, especially at ourselves, we become more inclined to embrace change. Through visual art and stand-up comedy, Panić focuses on personal stories, transforming them into witty, droll narratives about longing for a better life. In Just Between Us, she uses comedic techniques to subvert the format of artist talks and bring humor into institutional settings and the art world.

Mila Panić (1991) was born in Brčko (BA) and lives and works in Berlin (DE). Her artistic practice is stuated at the intersection of visual art and stand-up comedy. Fields that rarely communicate with each other meet in her work, showing that critique can remain playful and accessible.

Excerpts from Renegade Stages (renegade circus cabaret)

In Excerpts from Renegade Stages, circus skills meet collective, playful stupidity. The performance draws on the spirit of the renegade open stage, where anyone can perform anything, and where there is space for rough attempts and for acts that would not make it onto a conventional stage. Things can go wrong. Or we can deliberately do things wrong, without explanation or justification. Taking the piss out of ourselves, each other, and the audience is all part of it. When we do stupid things, for a moment we stop participating in the system. Why? We are not saying.

The circus artists of Excerpts from Renegade Stages take on a wide range of roles – from jugglers and drag performers to acrobats and whatever else might come along – performing on stages large and small, at home and around the world, and more recently in their own circus tent. Open stages, circus and juggling conferences, and workshops bring artists from all walks of life together in a creative mélange steeped in absurd self-irony, subverted skills, and playful mockery of themselves and everything around them.
