Neža Kokalj

Neža Kokalj is currently finishing her dance studies at the Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz, Austria, and has also completed an exchange semester at the Den Danske Scenekunst Skole in Copenhagen. She previously attended the dance department of the Preschool Education, Grammar School and Performing Arts Grammar School in Ljubljana. She choreographs and performs in the Copenhagen-based project And Then There Were the Sound of Birds. In Linz, she leads the series of interdisciplinary artistic encounters entitled The Purse of My Mother and participates in interdisciplinary projects with musicians and visual artists. Since 2019 she has been writing for the Ljubljana-based critical platforms Kriterij and Aplavz. Her approach to dance is holistic; she is interested in choreography, dance techniques, stage theories, history and criticism, emphasising the social role and placement of dance. Her works are based on clearly defined conceptual foundations and contain a unique movement language that emerges from improvisation and the process of refining her own movement coordination and structural errors.
