Methodologies of Notating Small Arts
About
A book about the genres of new circus, contemporary street theatre, puppetry, clowning and improvisational theatre that have long been a part of the Slovenian small arts landscape, including the somewhat less visible genres of neoburlesque and cabaret, and about the artists who create distinctly feminist work, engage with LGBTQIA+ forms of expression and critique the status quo with their performances.
The publication contains articles, discussions and workshops that formed the discursive programme of two editions of the Small Arts Platform: the 2021 “Small Arts” Symposium and the 2022 “Small Minor Arts” Platform. Hans van Maanen, Zala Dobovšek, Maša Radi Buh, Metod Zupan, Irena Ristić and Katja Čičigoj, as well as Maja Delak and Luka Prinčič, offer academic, practical, general and specific insights to outline an in-depth and critical reflection on the Platform’s mission, shed light on the advantages and limitations of the genre designations, principles and forms of expression subsumed under the term small arts and sink their teeth into the individual aspects of the genres in question.
