Pre-Premiere '12: Avantguard

ABOUT

Pre-Première (stress on the preposition) is the title of the annual production (since 2003) of the arts secondary school for contemporary dance in Ljubljana, which gives the students the opportunity for an organised entrance to and a pre-experience of performing on professional stages. Last year's production featured for the first time also the students of the theatre programme. This year they are again performing together in Pre-Première 2012: Avantgarde, the title of which also refers to movements before, ahead, to forerunners, bearers of new ideas. Different isms as ideas in art and the representatives of the avantgarde were a common topic, material, an inspiration, because they constitute the basis for a reflection on the social role of the artist and on the possibilities of artistic engagement, which can change the world, captivate, enchant, and awaken more generations. Conceived as a collection of ideas, the performance presents these ideas in a frontal, direct, and striking way in the first part, dispersing them in compositional and choreographic contemporary dance sequences in the second part, which puts the finishing touch on the selected themes and shapes the staging as a whole. The outcome is a fluid, colourful, and stunning performance distinguished by an updated understanding of avantgarde artistic actions and the eruptive energy of young performers.

The exhibition presents a selection of photos from the last year's production of the Pre-School Education and Grammar School Ljubljana Pre-Première '11: Nostalgia's Nostalgia and the evening of dance solos of the school's 2011 graduates – Reflexenie.

AWARDS

Naomi Novak, 4th year student of the Pre-School Education and Grammar School Ljubljana, received the Best Performer Award at the 2012 Transgenerations Festival, namely for her noticeable part in the performance Pre-Première '12: Avantgarde.
