Guerrilla Girls On Tour

About

Guerrilla Girls On Tour bring the art of performance and activism to a diverse audience through participation in a variety of residence activities designed around your communities needs. Our workshops and master classes serve to enhance activist efforts by sharing with groups the visual and performance techniques developed and used by Guerrilla Girl On Tour.

All residency activities are appropriate for anyone interested in activism, global and social issues, creative humour, art, theatre and/or feminism.

Biography

Guerrilla Girls On Tour creates original comedies, vaudevillian-like street actions, edgy visual works and empowering residency programs that dramatize women’s history, advocate on behalf of women and artists of color and uses a fresh, unique approach to address current political issues. In order to put the focus of their work solely on the topics they address, each member works under the name of a dead woman artist and performs wearing a gorilla mask. Guerrilla Girls On Tour uses a variety of classic comedy techniques and has developed a signature style that utilizes parody, movement/dance, music, sight gags, one liners and skits woven together in a loose vaudevillian structure. The 26-member troupe has performed over 200 shows through 40 US states and 11 countries bringing their brand of satirical performance art and activism against discrimination, sexism and racism from China to Hawaii to Poland and the UK. In 2010 they received the Yoko Ono Courage for the Arts Award.
